HelpDental, a web app created by Barnsley dentist Tristan Tinn, connects patients to available dental appointments across NHS and private practices. The platform aggregates data from over 11,000 practices in more than 250 locations, allowing patients to search by postcode and see real fees, ratings, opening hours and live availability where practice booking software supports it.

How the app simplifies dental appointment searches

Patients currently navigate multiple websites, comparison sites, NHS portals and social media groups to find dental appointments. HelpDental replaces this fragmented process with a single search layer. When supported by practice software, appointments book directly into the practice's diary. Tristan compares the model to Uber's approach: removing friction from the booking process without changing how clinical work happens at practices.

Closing the gap between available slots and patient access

Tristan identified a disconnect during patient conversations: dentists had available slots while patients struggled to find appointments, particularly through the NHS. He argues that appointment slots already exist across 11,000 separate practice systems daily, but patients cannot see them. A live discovery layer could match patients to last-minute cancellations and no-shows in real time, similar to how Uber reroutes drivers when passengers cancel. While NHS capacity has contractual constraints beyond the app's control, better visibility of existing slots could improve system efficiency.

Since launching in November 2025, the app has been visited by roughly 500 patients. Practices can claim their listing and add further information. For patients, HelpDental aims to provide a single search pathway with honest pricing and clear NHS versus private comparisons. For practices, the app offers a commission-free route to additional bookings.
