NYU Dentistry's Oral Health Center for People with Disabilities has received a $5.48 million grant from the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities. The funding will support construction of eight new private treatment rooms dedicated to pediatric patients with disabilities.

Current capacity and projected growth

The center, which opened in 2019, currently operates two sedation suites and nine treatment rooms. In 2025, the center served nearly 2,900 individuals. With the expansion, NYU estimates the center will triple its capacity for pediatric patients with disabilities, significantly increasing access to specialized dental care for this underserved population.

Timeline and construction details

Construction is expected to be completed in 2027. The new private treatment rooms will allow the center to accommodate more children requiring specialized care and sedation services, addressing a gap in dental access for pediatric patients with developmental disabilities.
