The Council of European Dentists (CED) has joined the Coalition for Vaccination in urging European countries to increase vaccination coverage and address misinformation, with particular attention to human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination. The call reflects concern that vaccine hesitancy, supply shortages, misinformation, and structural barriers within healthcare systems are threatening the protection that vaccination programmes currently provide. The CED's position aligns with its existing call for universal, gender-neutral HPV vaccination to eliminate cervical cancer and HPV-related oropharyngeal cancers. The Coalition asks the European Commission to work with Member States, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), and the European Medicines Agency on a broad set of actions. These include providing evidence-based public information, countering misinformation, supporting national vaccination strategies grounded in scientific evidence, investing in continuing professional development for healthcare professionals, monitoring immunisation programme performance, advancing a European digital vaccination card, improving transparency in vaccine approval, and strengthening vaccine safety surveillance at both national and EU-wide levels. For dental professionals, the oropharyngeal cancer dimension makes HPV vaccination directly relevant to clinical practice.
