CED adopts six policy updates at May 2025 General Meeting in Gdańsk
The updated CED AI resolution clarifies dentist liability when using AI tools: relevant for any practice integrating AI-assisted diagnosis.
The Council of European Dentists (CED) held its biannual General Meeting on 23-24 May 2025 in Gdańsk, Poland, where delegates from 32 national associations adopted six updated or new policy documents covering AI, medical device regulation, tobacco, sugar, antimicrobial resistance, and cross-border dentistry.
The updated AI resolution adds new recommendations on dentists' liability when working with AI tools, including guidance on white box AI, and references recent EU legislative developments. The revised Medical Device Regulation statement stresses risks of medical device shortages caused by lengthy recertification processes. A new statement on cross-border dentistry addresses concerns about third-country-educated dentists, including linguistic competence and familiarity with host-country healthcare systems.
For dental professionals, the AI liability guidance is the most immediately relevant update, as it clarifies professional responsibility when AI-assisted diagnosis or treatment planning is involved. The MDR update is relevant for practices relying on older certified devices that may face availability problems. All six documents are publicly available on the CED website and reflect positions that national associations may translate into domestic advocacy or regulatory dialogue.
